10 Fashion Trends for Fall and Winter 2013

-:¦:- FORGO THE SLEEVES UNDER JACKETS -:¦:-

AtomicBliss on ETSY

Modern suits and jackets are slim and contouring.

For men, there are no aggressive plaids, no I’m-the-man pinstripes, no four-button jackets. Instead, the message is smart, confident, thoroughly put together. And take it a size down for the slimmer trimmer look.

For women, FORGO THE SLEEVES. Don’t bulk up with extra fabric. A simple, sleeveless Tee makes the difference between looking bulky and dated, and slim and modern. Contrasting elegant suits and jackets with fun, colorful, casual Ts, Tops, and Tanks makes the look fresh and exciting.

The fit is everything.

We’ve added lots of Fresh Laundry to help you out.

-:¦:- SEVEN FOR THE END OF SUMMER -:¦:-

The moment you feel Summer end, thankfully, is actually before it does. That feeling, “OMG, the Summer’s OVER,” still allows you a few days grace period to get it done.  We challenge you with some suggestions — and would love to hear yours:

1. Make a SMORE!  (Tell us you did not enjoy doing this!!) Preferably over a camp fire and NOT your stove.

2. Ride your bike. Go on! Go pump up those tires! No excuse! To the store if nothing else. Just do it!

3. Go for a  hike. Go for a hike even if it is just to coffee.

4. Take a deep breath, read a book, sit by the pool, the water, read a magazine cover to cover, enjoy all the flowers you planted this spring, with wine and cheese on your best china, without your phone, and breeeeeath before the fall, school, the holidays, and the rush.

5. Take a family picnic. Do it ALL, and do it right!

6. Put on your shorts, tank top, and flip-flops and take all the neighbors popsicles!

7. Lay under the stars until you fall asleep.

ITHAKA

As you set out for Ithaka
hope the voyage is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope the voyage is a long one.
May there be many a summer morning when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you come into harbors seen for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind—
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to gather stores of knowledge from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you are destined for.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you are old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you would not have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you will have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

-:¦:- IT WAS -:¦:-

track

It was only a matter of time until THIS box opened. So complicated.

I was going to have to write a synopsis of what it was, and what it was called, and what the makers and part numbers were, and what the years and places it was made were, and what the quality was, and how all that translated into the market value of today.

My focus was on the research dive (the reading, the conversations and correspondences with subject matter experts, + the back and forth, + the understanding, application, analyzation, the whole Bloom enchilada basically) just to post these to our little shop. Post these to the shop. And the pace of this particular investigation, + the actual present moment filling-up to the top my own life was not allowing my process to connect to more than the data, and no deeper than the tactile surface, the steely smell, the light-play detailing molded plastic, the color, the camera angles, the superficial,

and then it got me.

(So predictable this commonly understood human experience, and I apologize for being compelled to tell it.)

The things I am handling, the things that have filled our trunks and attics forever were also things that have intersected with our lives at different moments, and, now, part of the gestalt mix-of-memories that make us who we are, and for, at minimum, a couple generations deep, and here I was connecting not at all intimately with them, and not at all sacredly with them, but uninvolved and dispassionate.

I was focused on a goal and it was not what I anticipated happening. Because beyond the initial WOW of the Christmas-like opening — my goal has been to clear the stuff and program manage a business transaction — the objective of this endeavor.

So I take a moment to tell, because way, way before that detached, clinical undertaking started a few weeks ago, I remember this stuff. It was pure mystery then. It was excitement and danger and control, things about which small children know little. It was vibration and heat and current and complex smells and words:  transformer. That’s worth a quarter in any decade. It was speckled linoleum. It was dad’s fingers twisting small wires. It was mom manifesting Campbell’s tomato soup and grilled Velveeta sandwiches. It was my brother very, very, very carefully lining-up all those wheels. It was goosebumps. It was joy.

-:¦:- POMEGRANATE JANUARY -:¦:-

pomjan

Fabulous POMEGRANATE items.

Whether you are trying to take off excess weight from the twelve days of cookies, need a little boost in the boudoirs, or are exploring the super foods – POMEGRANATE is at the top of all the lists. Get these into your diet fresh before the month (and growing season) is over.

Peeling?  Not a problem.  Really just go for it – gently.

Score the peel in half — you don’t have to slice entirely through fruit — it will pull apart easily and you lose less juice.

Now do it in fourths, again scoring the peel only, not bisecting fruit.

Gently remove seeds from their sections.

Eat with a spoon, or add to your favorite recipe.

Want them year ’round? Just add to your freezer.

Enjoy!!

FOOTBALL

This is another GREAT weekend for football!  And not even a blanket like this could conceal my bookishness.  (How far away is the baseball now?  And how many months until April is it? Sigh.)

Yes!!  LOVE, love, love your blankets my dearest Grannie Annie, but I am in charge of the blog today, the football brunch marys, and am not the family football fan-club president. (Why am I an eager baseball spectator? and not an all-around sports spectator? We haven’t figured that out.)

So for my part, instead of cheering, I’ll simply say — cheers!

But if you ever want to PLAY? — I’m in!!
